Harold Miller, 1919-2005
Posted on July 20th, 2005 @ 11:36 PM EST
I am sad to report that my grandfather, Harold Miller, passed away at 6:45 this evening in his bed at the VA hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He turned 86 last month and had been suffering from numerous problems such as cancer and kidney trouble during the past few years. I saw him twice while I was in Maryland over the 4th of July and am glad that I got to see him before things took a turn for the worse. My parents visited him the past three days because the doctors said they thought he didn’t have much longer to live, especially since he hadn’t eaten anything since Friday. He died 25 minutes after they arrived at the hospital and said their final words, which seemed as though he was holding out for them to get there before passing away.
He will certainly be missed and I will always hold fond memories of him in my heart, especially when we used to go fishing in the Chesapeake Bay and eat at his favorite restaurant, Sip & Bite, in Fells Point. In one way it’s a blessing that he is no longer suffering yet at the same time it hurts to think that I will never see him again. We will be honoring his wishes by scattering his ashes at sea in a couple of weeks.

Movable Type 3.2 Beta
Posted on July 14th, 2005 @ 6:32 PM EST
I upgraded my installation of Movable Type to the 3.2 beta version that was just released today. The upgrade went pretty smooth and I haven’t run into any problems (at least so far). After logging in I could instantly tell that a lot of improvements had been made. There’s over 100 new features and you can read highlights of some of Six Apart’s favorites on their Beta Blog. Here are some of my favorite changes:
- Colorful Icons
- Tons of new icons have been added which are nice and colorful unlike the grayscale images that were used before. The color makes it easier to find a link that I’m looking for instead of having to read all of the text.
- Easier Navigation
- A new sub-navigation menu has been added along the top of each page which greatly improves usability by not having to scroll as much.
- Global Search
- The search feature now enables you to search for any text throughout your entire weblog or if you have more than one blog, it will search through all of them at once for a particular string.
- Improved Listing Pages
- Each listing page (comments, entries, etc.) now have a more consistant display and there’s status indicator icons that clearly show more information about each item that’s listed.

Fantastic Four
Posted on July 11th, 2005 @ 10:55 PM EST
Last weekend I went and saw the Fantastic Four which wasn’t so fantastic. It was probably the worst comic book movie I’ve seen. With a 100 million dollar budget, I really thought that it would have been a lot better. If you haven’t seen it yet, don’t even bother until it comes out on DVD.
